Elixir’s Natural Body Care - Your Blueprint To Beauty

Botox - Facelift in a bottle

in the early afternoon of May 16th, 2006

What began as a rumour towards the end of the 90’s was thrumming by 2001 and saw women and men flocking to their Botox specialist for an instant face lift.

Botox is made from botulinium toxin, a poison produced by the bacterium Clostridium Botulinium. This bacterium causes botulism a severe form of food poisoning.

The botulinum toxin is applied by a series of injections directly into targeted muscle areas where wrinkles are of concern, for example, crows feet. After the injections, the toxin works by migrating towards the junction between the nerve ending and the muscle and binding itself to the nerve ending, effectively paralyzing the muscle, so it can no longer contract.

The injections take approximately three to seven days to take effect and last three to four months. Repeated injections are required for the rest of your life to maintain your seemingly youthful appearance, however, continued treatments can cause atrophy or thinning of the muscles.

A leading Neurophysiologist, Dr. Peter Misra, has cautioned that the long-term effects of the miracle anti-wrinkle treatment on the brain, nervous system and muscles are as yet unknown.

He adds that Botox, a derivative of the deadly botulism toxin, could cause fatal muscular paralysis in its natural form.

In the British Medical Journal he states, Robust evidence for the action of botulinium toxin (Botox) on sensory neurons is lacking.

Animal experiments have shown that botulinium toxin affects the transmission of afferent nerves, and has been shown to play a part in inhibiting the release of neurotransmitters.

Dr. Misra points to a study published in 2001 that found 23% of patients seeking Botox treatment suffered from Dysmorphic Disorder, a condition in which people are obsessed, to the exclusion of all else, with some aspect of themselves that they dislike.

Side Effects
Common side effects include headaches, respiratory infection, flu like symptoms, droopy eyelids or eyebrows and nausea. Soreness and mild bruising can occur around the injection site.

Botox and Bollinger
Botox parties are becoming trendy with people receiving treatments while sipping on champagne. The American Academy of Dermatology has warned against this practice. Alcohol can intensify bruising and wash the toxin away from the targeted muscle.

It is a sad world we live in that people are fixated with their appearance and that companies, the media and magazines around the world continue to assault the public with illusions of unattainable beauty, portrayed by perfect airbrushed models making people feel inadequate and depressed.

Nourish, nurture and care for your most prized possession and it will reward you with glowing health for the rest of your life.
