Aesop
mid-afternoon of July 10th, 2006Aesop is an Australian founded Company who promote themselves as ethical, moral, holistic in their approach and methodology with a strong emphasis on botanical based products.
I quote “Our core focus at Aesop has always been premium product efficacy, sensory pleasure and safety. We aim to deliver these objectives with solid science, uncomplicated packaging and an unwavering sense of humour.”
A product selected at random.
A Rose by any other name Body Cleanser
Ingredients : Citric Acid, Citronellol Essential Oil, Cocamide DEA, Coco-Betaine, Cardamom Oil, Geranium Essential Oil, Methyl Eugenol Essential Oil, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone, Black Pepper Essential Oil, Sea Salt, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Water
Cocamide DEA - CANCER HAZARD SUSPECTED / Potential for harmful impurities / Immune system toxicant (allergies, sensitisation) / Insufficient safety data
Coco-Betaine - Not assessed for safety
Methychloroisothiazolinone [preservative] - Safety limits on use/purity and manufacturing / Immune system toxicant (allergies, sensitisation). Sensitiser - can instigate immune system response that can include itching, burning, scaling hives, and blistering of skin. Lung Sensitiser - can instigate immune system response that can include asthma attacks or other problems with the lungs and airways. Immune system toxin.
Methylisothiazolinone [preservative] - AS ABOVE
Sodium Laureth Sulfate - Insufficient safety data / 95% Penetration Enhancer = alters skin structure allowing other chemicals to penetrate deeper into the skin, increasing the amounts of other chemicals that reach the bloodstream.
Although I personally believe essentail oils used in body care products are commendable, it should be noted that these volatile oils can be very irritating to skin therefore I do not recommend using skincare formulated with essential oils.
Now in all fairness, I was a little hasty writing this article, so let me write some wrongs and expand a little further.
Aesop go on to say that the preservatives they use [and I have mentioned them above] are “used in extremely small quantities.”
Immune System Toxins used as preservatives. A toxin is a toxin whether absorbed by the bucket load in one lethal hit or dispensed drip by drip over the course of a year.
Insidiously and slowly poisoning your body sounds like a time bomb waiting to go off.
