The New Polit Bureau
in the early evening of April 20th, 2007If communication plays a central role in politics, economics, and culture in societies across the globe, does it not also provide vital new opportunities for political interaction, social and economic development, and cultural sustainability?
Communication is a fundamental social process and the foundation of all social organisation. It is more than the mere transmission of messages. Communication is human interaction among individuals and groups through which identities and meanings are shaped. Communication rights are based on a vision of the free flow of information and ideas which is interactive, egalitarian and non-discriminatory and driven by human needs, rather than commercial or political interests. These rights represent people’s claim to freedom, inclusiveness, diversity and participation in the communication process.
I have been a member of AdlandPro - a community forum, since 2005 and I am disgusted with recent events that deemed it necessary for the founder Bogdan Fiedur to implement a committee, comprised of a self styled polit bureau to supervise all posts.
Forums are essential in creating community dialogue and are cornerstones of the Information Center.
What about people who aren’t confident enough or articulate enough to express themselves by AdlandPro’s rules? They still have legitimate needs to communicate. By monitoring these forums and removing inappropriate words, phrases or entire posts, how can they still say they respect the right to free speech?
AdlandPro should allow criticism even if some of it gets a little mean-spirited. If your posters have vitriolic and racist comments, and these people are at the most extreme levels of offense, then simply ban them.
AdlandPro’s vision of communication rights is NOT based upon the recognition of the inherent dignity and the equal and inalienable rights of all people.
It seems that the disease of micromanagement is running rampant. We see it in politics, we see it in the workplace, now we even see it in community forums.
Micromanagement stems primarily from insecurity, the effect it can have on motivation on people in any circumstance is devastating, destroying trust.
