Back to school
in the wee hours of June 26th, 2007
At the geezerly age of 42….okay, I really feel only 24 lol; I find myself back in secondary school…teaching on a consulting basis in South Wales.
With my technical background in formulation, the kids are getting a taste of chemical engineering in the beauty industry, learning the importance of chemicals and the difference between natural versus synthetic. The highlight of the day is when they get real ’hands-on’ work and actually do some basic formulation and design.
I just love the looks of pride and achievement on their bright, happy faces, as they clutch their respective creations. With delicious aromas wafting down school corridors from our chemical lab, it’s not surprising the number of students we have to field who want to join in. I so wish we could do it for more kids. They’re an enthusiastic bunch who eagerly anticipate the afternoon bell so they can proudly show off their masterpieces.

It’s fast and furious and loads of fun.
I just don’t remember school being this much fun at their age….
