Naturally fresh breath and whiter teeth
in the early morning of October 6th, 2007An aromatic evergreen tree with bright red flowers was discovered growing on the Molucca Islands near Indonesia during the fifteenth century by Vasco da Gama, a Portuguese navigator.
The flowers are dried on grass mats in the sun until they turn a rich reddish-brown colour and then a volatile oil is extracted by steam distillation called Clove Oil [Eugenia Caryophyllata].
Clove Essential Oil is warming and soothing and very effective as an antiseptic. In fact, it is so effective in killing bacteria that it has been used to clean microscope slides.
A few drops of essential oil in a glass of water and gargled makes for an excellent mouth wash and breath sweetener. If you have a toothache, a drop or two of Clove Oil onto a cotton bud and applied to the tooth will help to alleviate any pain.
For a dazzling smile you can achieve at home, look no further than strawberries. This berry contains an enzyme called malic acid which helps to remove discolouration and whiten teeth naturally.
Mash up one strawberry with 1/2 tsp baking soda, mix well and apply to your teeth for five minutes. Rinse out and brush your teeth with toothpaste and floss if necessary to dislodge those strawberry seeds. Do not use more than once per week as the acid from the strawberries will harm the tooth enamel.
What to do with all those leftover berries? Indulge in a Strawberry Parfait! What, you mean to tell me you don’t know what a Strawberry Parfait is? Marinate some berries in Strawberry Liqueur and a little sugar. Layer into a tall Parfait glass with Fromage Frais and drizzle over a little more liqueur. Yum! Perfectly acceptable to indulge in with moderation.
